Sidi Almansri Park
2009. TRIPOLI, LIBIA
The future Sidi Almansri park recycles the existing tree forest from the former Botanical Garden of Tripoli to be transformed in an public urban park open to the city and combined with the gubernamental use of official receptions.
The proposal is based on the respect and improvement of the existing historical path network and vegetation structures and the following addition of new layers of activity that transform the exisiting degradated forest into a contemporary recreational area.
The park is divided into different areas according to the existing ecosystems : the pine tree forest, the olive orchard, the fruit tree orchards and the presidential square. To this main structure, a new network of sinuous paths and activity islands is added. New pavilions host facilities as kiosk, restaurant, washrooms, in paved squares. Historical buildings are restored to have new urban functions related to the university nearby such as libary or internet cafe.
