Campus 3 Augsburg
MASTERPLAN FOR THE NEW CAMPUS FOR AUGSBURG HÖCHSCHULE
AUGSBURG, GERMANY. 2019
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION - SHORTLISTED
The proposal aims to connect “Campus 3” in the Prince Karl district with the two university campuses “Campus am Brunnenlech and Campus am Roten Tor” and the neighboring districts of the city. The proposal is based on the spatial typology of the existing campuses, which are based on a solution with a central courtyard around which the buildings are grouped. The courtyard serves as a space for relationships and as the heart of every campus.
The design intends to solve the needs of the required space program of the university and at the same time to achieve a harmonious integration into the Prince Karl district by adhering to the basic features of the existing planning.
The design for the campus follows an arrangement in which there is a harmonious connection between the open spaces and the building volume. Therefore, the arrangement is structured along a series of green spaces that interlock in the form of courtyards along an imaginary diagonal that crosses the competition area from northeast to southwest. With this axis it creates the main connection to the city, with the east-west axis that already exists in Prince Karl district.
