The creation of a pole of activity of mixed use facilities, public space and housing in an abandoned industrial site raises the question of how to combine the activity generated by 30.000sqm of new program with the lifestyle of the surrounding green city structure. Tabula rasa or recycling? Our position is expressed through a pragmatic and symbolic approach. These buildings may host a diversity of new public uses transforming them into indoor urban squares, Their silhouette makes them the trademark of the skyline and the identity of the neighborhood.

The proposal is completed by the creation of an “urban magma” which fills completely the site with a diverse housing urban fabric, absorbing the industrial buildings, that remain floating into it as if they were icebergs. This magma, materializing a hyperdensification of the suburban tissue, grows in size from the suburban residential scale to the scale of existing industrial buildings, thus generating the desired urban density.. This scalar gradient is achieved through the three typologies: S, M, L that respond to the different typologies required by the program.

* S- Houses patio : Base unit of the fabric, allows to reach high levels of density with a low rise  typology.

* M- Compact apartment block : A compact nucleus of services and communications liberates the space defining a diaphanous plant.

* L- Anchor towers :The student residence program is solved through a fragmented organization of 5 dormitory towers for students who "anchor" themselves to the industrial buildings where the collective spaces are located and connected through the old catwalks.

Three green corridors connecting city nodes (city centre, university, nature, the Danube river), cut through the “magma” reconfiguring the city´s network and transforming the site into a new node. A city compressed in 5 hectares.
